![]() Then when they arrived on the island with the whaling station, they had to trek across crevasse-riddled glaciers to get to the station- in the Hoena book it is glossed over like no biggie. In the Hoena book it seems as easy and casual as running to 7-eleven for some cream. But the way they present the story is idiotic!! The most intense moments were skipped over, almost as if the plan was to neuter the story for the sake of not upsetting toddlers? Like when Shackleton and the navigator (& I think another guy or two?) headed out to get help after months of eating penguin- I recall they faced -50 weather while splashed with brine in a mere lifeboat, and had to aim for an island a mile or two across, hundreds of miles away in an enormous, mostly empty sea. It has some good looking art so I had high hopes. I tried a couple other options and ended up gifting this one.įirst I tried the Blake Hoena one. ![]() So now that we got step-grandkids we thought to get a graphic novel version to share it with them. After seeing an Imax about this story, my husband and I never forgot our awe at the tale. ![]()
